Article 10: Security considerations - barrier gates.

Series: Building the perfect gate.

It's important to discuss what level of security your client wants. Do they only want access control for vehicles? This can be achieved with a barrier gate like the SEA Verg, Sprint, and Vela. These are also know as parking control arms, barrier arms and barrier gates. Everyone has used one if you’ve been to the airport, hospital, municipal facility, or almost any parking garage. They are the metal cabinets with a long skinny arm that extends over the driveway and opens by pivoting up and away when access is granted. They’re not designed for security so much as a reminder that you need to pay for your parking!

In the same range with fractionally more security, Tousek offers an automatic chain that restricts access to areas with a remote activated chain that drops to allow access, and raises up to restrict access. It’s a very clean system with minimal requirements in terms of infrastructure. They can be bolted down to concrete driveways or set on sonotubes. In a pinch, they can also be mounted to brackets off the pillars in parking garages or to the walls of buildings. They come with either a yellow high-vis chain, or an optional stainless steel chain for a slightly higher security level.
